Militants, cable TV and the fight for the Niger Delta

Today it is the Avengers, tomorrow it will be the Spider-Man and the next we will see the Xmen. If not for the seriousness of the issue one would have fallen on the ground in laughter. But far from it, these groups of brigands are causing serious economic mayhem with their continued bombings of the pipelines.

You will ask why I involve cable television on the title of this piece. How else do these people get to see all the movies where they get their names if not through the superhero movies conveyed daily into our homes. What is left for the mimicry to be complete is the costumes worn by these fictitious characters that these people are replicating.

But seriously, my issue is with the way the government is handling these people at this time. The who push approach to the matter is of great concern. Today we are attacking tomorrow we are standing down looking for talks. You do not show this kind of inconsistency as a government especially when the opponents are focused and hell-bent on their plans.

The siege on the communities is very ok with me. If the leers are suffering and need succor then they must call their youths to order. They cannot be seeing their children commit all these crimes and when the Army comes for them they start crying human rights. It is not fair to the rest of us. When the bombings and mutilating are going on, why are they not warning their children against the violation of the human rights of the rest of the country?

The government should be more decisive in choosing a winning strategy . Even the much maligned Jonathan Government did far better in handling these people. Who for Christ sake tries to dialogue with such marauders? It just shows a high level of unseriousness.

Sometimes I wonder if this nation is not doomed to fail. If it is not Boko Haram, it is Avengers or Fulani herdsmen, the only consistent thing today is Governments inconsistency.

I am tired, hungry and disillusioned.
