14 rescued, one dead as police foils kidnap attempt in Katsina
Police operatives in Katsina on Sunday foiled a kidnap attempt by suspected bandits and rescued 14 victims in Jibia local government area of the state.
However, one of the kidnapped persons died after he was hit by a bullet fired by the terrorists.
He was one of the two rescued victims who suffered gunshot injuries and died in a hospital in the area.
The spokesman for the state police command, Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday in Katsina.
He said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing terrorists and urged members of the public with useful information on suspected criminal activities to report to the nearest police station.

The statement read: “On November 24th, 2024, at about 1955 hours, suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically, attacked two (2) commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, Katsina State, in an attempt to kidnap the occupants.
“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel, successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt, and rescued fourteen (14) victims.
“Two rescued victims suffered gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, one victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.”
