31 dead, 5,280 houses destroyed in Kano flood
The Kano State government has confirmed 31 persons dead in recent flood disaster in 21 local government areas of the state.
The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Isyaku Kubarachi disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday in Kano.
He said 280 people were affected and 5,280 houses were destroyed by the flood.
Kubarachi added that 2, 518 farmlands covering 976 hectares of land were washed away in the incident which followed heavy rainfall in Wudil, Gwale, Nassarawa, Dala, Tarauni, Dawakin-Tofa, Dambatta, and other LGAs.

He said: “The state government has taken proactive measures, including clearing of blockages in drains and evacuation of refuse to ensure smooth water flow during the rainy season.
“Furthermore, SEMA and NEMA have assessed the damage in the affected areas and forwarded the necessary data to the government for necessary assistance.
“The state government is working on providing aid to all 21 local government areas affected by the flood and hopes for a positive outcome soon.”
