‘A diversionary move to mask incompetence,’ Obaseki dismisses Okpebholo’s planned probe of his govt
The former Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, has described as diversionary the asset verification committee put in place by Governor Monday Okpebholo in the state.
The governor had last week established a 14-member committee to probe the Obaseki administration.
The committee which will be inaugurated on Tuesday is expected to review the assets and liabilities handed over by the last administration in the state.
However, in a statement issued on Sunday by his media aide, Crusoe Osagie, the former governor dismissed the move as a “laughable” and “diversionary” tactic aimed at masking Okpebholo’s alleged lack of readiness to govern.
He said the committee was “just another smokescreen in a series of meaningless probes initiated by a governor who has shown he is unprepared for the responsibilities of governance.”

He accused Okpebholo of trying to score political points, saying the administration is out of its depth and is being controlled by godfathers seeking vendetta after they were denied access to the state’s resources by his administration.
The statement read: “This so-called State Assets Verification Committee is just another smokescreen in a series of meaningless probes initiated by a governor who has shown he is unprepared for the responsibilities of governance.
“Governor Okpebholo is merely staging a spectacle to distract Edo people from his incompetence. He seems to believe the people of Edo State can be fooled by these antics, but he will soon learn that they are wise and discerning.
“This administration is out of its depth and is being controlled by godfathers seeking vendetta after being denied access to the state’s resources during the Obaseki administration.”
He advised Okpebholo to focus on governance and improving the lives of Edo people rather than waste state resources masking his incompetence in meaningless probes.
