Sultry Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has moved to fight back her suspension by the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN) over claims of spreading false information about patrons and other members of the organisation.

Recall that the suspension of the thespian was made known in a statement issued by the AGN on Friday which noted that Halima Abubakar was behind news of extra-marital affairs linked with highly placed individuals in the society emanating from the industry.

According to the statement, it was established that the actress was behind the slanderous information following thorough investigation by a panel set up to look into her activities.

“Following thorough investigation by the Special Secret Investigation Panel set up to conduct an internal underground secret investigation into the activities of some blogs/bloggers since 2022…

“After more two years of painstaking investigation, the panel found out that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind all the slanderous information of our members, associates and patrons especially news of extra-marital affairs linked with highly placed individuals in the society emanating from the industry.

“Halima Abubakar has been placed on indefinite suspension from the AGN and she will face the National Disciplinary Committee to determine her full punishment,” the statement read in part.

Miffed by the allegations leveled against her person, Halima Abubakar through her legal team, P.D Pius & Associates has sent a letter to the AGN condemning its findings as ‘a false publication’ which has tarnished the image of its client.

Her legal team accused the AGN of using her vulnerable state to further a negative narrative, claiming it was an attempt to “stir up social opprobrium” against her. The letter stated, “Rather than show concern for our client’s fundamental rights to fair hearing and privacy, you chose this delicate moment to push your false narrative.”

The demand letter includes a stern request for the AGN to take down the original Instagram post, issue a public apology, and pay a staggering three billion naira (approximately $7.5 million) for the damage to Halima Abubakar’s reputation.

“Your false publication has damaged the reputation of our client and continues to do so with each passing minute,” the letter asserts, pointing to the wide reach of Rollas’ initial statement across various media platforms.
