Carlos Alcaraz has emerged champion of the men’s singles at Wimbledon after defeating Novak Djokovic in a thrilling final on Sunday.

Djokovic was bidding for men’s record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title but it was Alcaraz who won the day 6-2 6-2 7-6 (7-4).

Spanish star Alcaraz, who won the last edition of the tournament, has now clinched his fourth Grand Slam title at age of 21.

The repeat of last year’s final failed to live up to the five-set thriller of 12 months ago as Djokovic appeared mostly helpless against the dominant Alcaraz.

“Honestly, it is a dream for me winning this trophy,” said Alcaraz.

“I did an interview when I was 11 and I said my dream is to win Wimbledon.”

Gracious in defeat, Djokovic shared a smile and warm embrace with Alcaraz at the net after his comprehensive loss.
