Amid festering insecurity, NSA Ribadu assures of renewed focus in 2025
As Nigeria enters 2025, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu has pledged a decisive and reinvigorated approach to tackling terrorism, violent extremism, and organized crime.
With a blend of innovative strategies, enhanced collaboration, and proactive measures, Ribadu expressed optimism that the nation’s security architecture is poised for significant improvements.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, Maj. Gen. Adamu Laka, Ribadu emphasized the importance of a united front against insecurity.
He highlighted recent advancements, such as the operationalization of the Multi-Agency Anti-Kidnap Fusion Cell, a key initiative developed with support from the UK’s National Crime Agency to address the scourge of kidnapping and related crimes.
To further enhance security efforts, Ribadu announced the introduction of dedicated emergency numbers aimed at facilitating swift reporting and response to incidents across the country.

“The year 2025 marks a renewed focus on combating terrorism, violent extremism, and other serious organized crimes. With enhanced collaboration and innovative strategies, we aim to address these challenges head-on. The Multi-Agency Anti-Kidnap Fusion Cell is a critical step forward, and soon, Nigerians will have access to dedicated emergency numbers for timely intervention,” Ribadu stated.
Ribadu acknowledged the significant challenges faced in 2024, including the resurgence of the Lakurawa terrorist group in the North-West and deliberate sabotage of national infrastructure by non-state actors. Despite these obstacles, he commended the unwavering commitment of the Armed Forces, security agencies, and civilians who stood resilient in the face of adversity.
“While the year 2024 tested us with its share of security challenges, the bravery and dedication of our security personnel and citizens have been remarkable. Together, we’ve made strides in containing threats and protecting our national interests,” Ribadu said.
Looking ahead, Ribadu urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and supportive of security initiatives. He called for trust in the government’s renewed efforts to create a safer, more stable environment for all.
“We understand the gravity of the threats we face, but our resolve is stronger. 2025 will be a year of resilience, innovation, and collaboration in securing the future of our nation,” he added.
