Amnesty International, on Friday, strongly condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the prolonged detention of #EndBadGovernance protesters, including minors, since August.

The global human rights organization expressed outrage over the malnourishment and collapse of underage protesters during their arraignment at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

“Amnesty International condemns President Bola Tinubu’s government for the continued detention of minors for participating in the August #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests,” the organization stated on X.

The incident occurred when the minors, detained since August, were brought to court from various police detention cells, including the Intelligence Response Team unit.

Photos and videos from Ripples Nigeria show the teenagers lying on the courtroom floor, with a lawyer attempting to revive one of the minors.

These protesters were part of the nationwide movement against acute hunger, insecurity, and bad governance under President Tinubu’s policies. The continued detention of minors has raised concerns about their treatment and well-being.

As reported earlier by Ripples Nigeria, several underage protesters fainted in the courtroom due to alleged poor treatment and starvation.

Amnesty International’s condemnation comes as pressure mounts on the Nigerian government to address the grievances of the #EndBadGovernance movement.
