Senator Ali Ndume has been removed from his position as Chief Whip of the Senate, with Senator Tahir Monguno appointed to replace him.

The decision was made following a directive conveyed in a letter from the National Chairman of the APC, Umar Ganduje, and National Secretary Senator Bashir Ajibola.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, put forth the request for Ndume’s replacement during plenary on Wednesday, which was affirmed by a majority voice vote from APC senators. This move reshapes the leadership dynamics within the Senate.

In response to his removal, Senator Ndume expressed discontent, citing internal party dynamics and issues with leadership decisions. He voiced his concerns over what he perceives as a lack of consultation and transparency in the decision-making process.

It is believed that his removal may not be unconnected to some of his recent remarks in which he was critical of President Bola Tinubu.

Meanwhile, the APC has defended its decision, asserting that the leadership change is aimed at strengthening the party’s position and ensuring effective representation within the Senate. They emphasized that the decision was made in accordance with the party’s internal procedures and consensus.

Senator Sunday Karimi, speaking on behalf of some APC senators, expressed support for the leadership change, highlighting the need for unity and cohesion within the party. He praised Senator Monguno’s capabilities and expressed optimism about the new leadership’s ability to navigate challenges effectively.

The developments mark a significant shift in Senate leadership and are expected to influence the political landscape in the coming legislative sessions.
