APC governors helpless in El-Rufai’s ministerial ordeal – Gov Sule
The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, said on Wednesday the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) was helpless in the ordeal of the former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The former governor has enjoyed a frosty relationship with some key figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC), especially those in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He was denied the ministerial slot in August 2023 over some controversial remarks credited to him shortly after that year’s election.
El-Rufai’s government was indicted for alleged corruption by a panel set up by the Kaduna State House of Assembly in 2024 to probe his eight-year rule in the state.

Sule, who appeared in a Channels Television programme, Politics Today, said the APC governors cannot do anything about the Senate’s decision to reject El-Rufai’s ministerial nomination in September 2023.
He added that the former governor was still in APC.
“El-Rufai has not left our party; he is still part of our party.
“What led to his (El-Rufai’s) nomination, what led to his rejection by the Senate or by the security agencies, to be honest with you, are not issues we discussed either at the Progressives Governors’ Forum or even the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. They are not issues because what doesn’t concern us, we can do nothing about it.
“It is the prerogative of Mr. President to nominate whoever should be his minister and he nominated. Also, there are agencies including the National Assembly that either confirm or reject and they rejected (him),” the governor stated.
