Apple agrees to pay $95m to users who were spied upon by its voice assistant, Siri

American multinational corporation and technology company has agreed to pay the sum of $95 million to settle users who have been spied upon by its voice assistant, Siri.

Third-party contractors, including human employees, allegedly unintentionally recorded and listened in on private Siri conversations, according to the class-action settlement.

Many Apple product owners in the US could receive up to $20 per device for up to five Siri-enabled devices under the proposed settlement, according to a report by Bloomberg. However, a court must still approve the ruling.

In the Apple complaint, a juvenile plaintiff alleged that their iPhones had repeatedly recorded them using Siri, sometimes without them using a wake word.

Apple and its attorneys did not immediately reply to demands for comment on Thursday, although the company denied any misconduct in reaching a settlement.

Similarly, the plaintiffs’ attorneys did not immediately reply. They might request up to $28.5 million in fees from the settlement fund, in addition to $1.1 million for costs.
