Apple planning big future upgrade by turning its watches into AI device

Tech giant Apple is reportedly planning to add cameras to the Series and Ultra models of the Apple Watch, opening the door for AI-powered visual context features.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is developing a smartwatch with cameras to expand the company’s “visual intelligence” features, which are at the moment limited to the most recent iPhone model.

The additional eye would allow the watch to use the company’s visual intelligence features, which include the ability to translate words in an image and detect objects.

According to Apple insider Mark Gurman, who wrote in his most recent Power On newsletter, the company “is working on new versions of the Apple Watch that include cameras.”

In particular, Gurman states that the company is “considering adding cameras to both its standard Series watches and Ultra models.”

He says the upgrade is probably “generations away,” so anticipate taking selfies with your Apple Watch Ultra 3 anytime soon.
