Arewa Group urges military action against Lakurawa terror group

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has sounded the alarm on the Lakurawa terrorist group, operating in Sokoto and Kebbi states, labeling it a significant threat to national security.

Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the ACF’s publicity secretary, expressed his concerns on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program on Monday night.

According to Muhammad-Baba, the Department of State Services (DSS) has been aware of the group’s existence for some time.

“They are not a new group; the DSS is aware of them. We thought they had been chased out, but we later found out that it was a deal that they should either leave or be attacked,” he revealed.

This admission raises questions about the effectiveness of Nigeria’s security apparatus in addressing a growing threat.

Muhammad-Baba emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “This is a major threat to national security… When you have a group like that coming into the country and establishing bases, putting in place our security and justice administrator system, it is like they’ve taken over sovereignty.”

His words echo the concerns of many Nigerians who feel that the government is not doing enough to protect its citizens.

The ACF has urged the Nigerian Military to take immediate action against the Lakurawa terror group, calling for a comprehensive re-appraisal of strategies and tactics to deal decisively with the threat.

The Forum also advocated for increased intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and community involvement to identify and prosecute local informants supporting the group.
