Blast rocks APP secretariat in Rivers

An explosion on Monday rocked the Action Peoples Party (APP) secretariat in Rivers State.

The blast which occurred at about 1:00 a.m., on Monday destroyed doors, windows, and other property in the building located on Tombia Road in GRA, Port Harcourt.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident to journalists in the state capital.

She said the command’s bomb disposal squad had been deployed to the scene to determine the cause of the explosion and the extent of the damage.

“We have dispatched our bomb disposal unit to the party office to ascertain what happened, and an investigation has commenced,” the spokesperson added.

However, it has not been ascertained if casualties were recorded in the latest explosion in the state which has been gripped by political crisis since September last year.

A similar explosion occurred near the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt when a group of people protested the police occupation of local council secretariats in the state in June.
