Court restricts #EndBadGovernanance protesters to Freedom, Peace Parks
Justice Emmanuel Ogundare of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, on Tuesday, restricted the #EndBadGovernance protesters to the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota.
They are also confined to the Peace Park in the Ketu area of the state.
The judge gave the order while ruling on an ex parte application filed by the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro.
Pedro had in his application said he has been privy to notices by different interests on the protest and stressed the need to protect the infrastructure of the state and prevent irreparable loss of lives and properties as witnessed during the October 2020 #ENDSARS protest in the state.
He argued that the move was to prevent the demonstration from being hijacked by hoodlums who were prepared to breach law and order and cause destruction in different parts of the under the guise of protest.
In his ruling, the judge held that the protest slated to take place from August 1 to 10 should only be held within the approved locations and between 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., pending compliance with the “pre-action protocol by the claimant.”
He also ordered the police to protect the rights of protesters within the approved locations and time for protests, rallies, and meetings in the state.
