Dayak Tennis: Three Nigerians battle for quarterfinal

The second round matches of the Dayak Tennis Championship holding at the National Tennis Centre, Abuja served off Wednesday with three Nigerians in action

Tuesday saw Joseph Ubon sealing a comfortable 6-0, 6-0 first round win over Christian Paul to join Albert Bikom in the second round.

With the development, the duo of Ubon and Bikom, who defeated South Africa’s Kris Van Wyk on Monday, are expected to add up to their points in the ATP rankings following their progress to the second round of the ITF Pro Circuit tournament featuring about 120 players from 25 countries.

They will be joined by the winner of the all-Nigeria tie between Mohammed Mohammed and Henry Atseye.

Tuesday was however a day not to remember for Nigeria with the exits of the quintet of Ikechukwu Iloputa, Sylvester Emmanuel, Umaru Balami, Moses Michael and John Otu against players of other nationalities.

Left-handed Iloputa succumbed 6-2, 6-1 to Egyptian Mohamed-Karim Maamoun, the seventh seed while Emmanuel bowed to second-seeded Egyptian Mohamed Safwat 6-2, 6-4
