Ebonyi govt confirms 10 dead, 20 hospitalised for cholera

The Ebonyi State government on Thursday confirmed that 10 persons have died in a cholera outbreak in Ndibokote village, Izzi local government area of the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Moses Ekuma, confirmed the news in a statement issued by the ministry’s spokesman, Lucy Anyim, in Abakaliki.

He said the victims include a mother of a nine-month-old baby.

The commissioner added that 20 persons affected by the outbreak are receiving treatment in hospitals across the state.

He said Governor Francis Nwifuru has approved the procurement of medical items to check the outbreak.

Nigeria has reported a total of 2102 cholera cases and 63 deaths across 33 states as of January this year, according to the country’s Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
