PDP accuses Oshiomhole of huge last minute spending
No fewer than 12 aspirants have picked the governorship nomination form of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State ahead of theSeptember 10, 2016 election to pick a successor for the out going governor,
Adams Oshiomhole.
The aspirants include the incumbent deputy governor of the state, Dr. Pius Odubu, Mr Godwin Obaseki, Barr. Kenneth Imansuangbon and Major General Charles Airhiavbere (rtd).
Others are the former President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Peter Esele, Chris Osa Ogiemwonyi, Blessing Agbomehere,  Arch. Austine Ilenre Emuan and Mrs. Tina Agbarha.
To make the number also, is a former governor of the state under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, who submitted a nomination and expression of interest forms on Friday.
Prof. Osunbor, who lost the governorship seat to Governor Oshiomhole in court after spending close to two years in office, said he was not threatened by the alleged endorsement of a candidate by the governor.
In a related development, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has expressed doubts over the participation of the PDP in the September governorship election in the state because of the lingering leadership crisis in the party.
INEC’s Deputy Director for Public affairs, Nick Dazang, stated this when he featured in a radio programme in Abuja.
Dazang, who disclosed that the commission’s delegation that monitored the party’s recent national convention had submitted its report, said INEC was yet to take a position on the happenings in PDP.
“The PDP, as we have said is in a state of flux. In spite of what happened in Port Harcourt, the Commission was there because it was invited and by law we are supposed to be invited 21 days to a convention or congress.”
Dazang warned that the PDP risked not taking part in the Edo State governorship election if the leadership crisis was not resolved soon.
According to him, in line with the timetable and the schedule of the governorship election unfolded by the commission, parties participating in the election were expected to hold their primary elections between June 2 and July 4 to pick their candidates.
“I expect that a very responsible party, a formidable party for that matter like the PDP will put its acts together in time for it particularly to collect the forms for those that will conduct the elections in Edo and Ondo and also to conduct the primaries that will lead up to who will now be their standard bearer for Edo governorship election to be conducted on Saturday September 10.
“The primaries are supposed to take place between 2nd June and 4th July. So, we expect that between now and then the PDP should be able to resolve some of these issues in the interest of that election.”
