Edo PDP guber aspirant protests outcome of primary

Chief Solomon Edebiri, has kicked against the outcome of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governorship primary election result.

Edebiri, was one of the aspirants in the Monday primary that saw Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu emerging as winner.
Edebiri in an interview with newsmen frowned at what he felt was a one sided contest.

He said, “PDP has proven that it is not a party a person can contest election and hope to get fair outing. The leaders allowed an aspirant to go round the state campaigning, spending his resources only to come on the eve of the election the leaders sent message round the whole state asking members to vote a particular candidate.

“You don’t allow people to go spending their hard earned resources, I didn’t steal government money, and then, come down on the eve of election and you hand down instruction to the entire local government chairmen to vote for a particular candidate, that was what happened. They disseminated information around the state that they should vote Pastor Ize-Iyamu.

“Well it has happened, they have done what they want to do, the people cannot exercise their free will and that brings the question, what is the value of PDP if people cannot contest election and expect to get justice, a fair play and if people cannot exercise their free will?”

On his next line of action, Edebiri said he is consulting and having meetings with his supporters but will come up with a final decision as soon as possible.

But speaking to Ripples Nigeria on Edebiri’s complaint, state chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih said there is nothing to complain about, as the process was very transparent, and that there was no favourite candidate.

He also noted that the party would not allow aggrieved parties in the process to feel bad, as it will activate its internal management mechanisms to ensure that every party, and interest in the party is accommodated.

“There is no problem, we are on top of the matter, it won’t cause a problem”, he said.
