EFCC tightens security at Lagos office over planned protest

Published

on

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has bolstered security measures at its Lagos office over a planned protest.

However, details about the nature of the protest and the organizing group remain sketchy at this time.

Operatives of the Lagos State Anti-Crime Outfit – Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and men of the Department of State Services (DSS) are among the joint security forces stationed at all routes leading to the EFCC office on Awolowo Road in the Ikoyi area of the state on Friday.

The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale said on Thursday intelligence at the disposal of some civil society organisations showed that a former governor and two former ministers are behind the protests against the commission.

This is coming after the commission raised the alarm that some groups were planning a series of protests against it.

The agency has faced criticism in the past regarding the effectiveness of its investigations and prosecutions.

The planned protest may be linked to a specific case or a broader dissatisfaction with the EFCC’s performance.
