We did not banish Sanusi from Kano —AG

The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has urged parents to prevent their children from being exploited by selfish politicians to instigate violence during the local government elections in Kano State.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, Sanusi emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security.

“As you are aware, tomorrow (today) Insha Allah, there will be a local government council election… All those who love Kano will agree with me that there is nothing we need more than preservation of peace and security,” Sanusi said.

He condemned those seeking to create chaos, stating, “All those who want to create mayhem and violence are enemies of the state… Our children will be killed, our wealth destroyed, and establishments damaged.”

Sanusi prayed, “May Allah return evil to those who wish us harm and reward those who wish us well.”

Sanusi referenced recent incidents where miscreants were brought in to cause violence, resulting in significant financial losses and irreparable human harm.

The monarch appealed to residents, particularly community leaders, to caution youths against being manipulated by those seeking to destabilize the state. He prayed for peaceful elections and divine protection.

Kano State Commissioner for Information Baba Dantiye announced midnight to 6 pm restrictions on election day, with security personnel deployed to enforce compliance.

Despite a federal high court ruling prohibiting the polls, a Kano state high court later authorized the Kano State Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) to conduct the elections as scheduled.

Governor Abba Yusuf declared the elections would proceed.
