Claim: “Please overlook her behavior” – Reactions Surface After Nigerian Woman Cut Off Her Husband’s Two Hands for Buying an iPhone 16 for His Side Ch!c

Verdict: False. It is misinformation.

Background

On Sunday, 9th February, 2025, a Facebook user Naija Tatafo shared two images on his Facebook page. The first picture captured an amputated man sitting on a wheelchair while the second photo showed a portrait of a woman right beside it.

The post was tagged with a caption that the two people in the pictures were a couple. And that the wife cut off her husband’s two hands after she discovered that the latter bought an iPhone 16 for another woman.

As at the time of filing this report, the post had generated over 22 reactions, seven comments and four shares.

A visit to the comment section suggested that people believed in the narrative. For example, Akpan Emmanuel commented “Where are the feminist, they should come and defend their gender here. Cutting off husband hands because of side chick.” Similarly, another user Lawal Moshood said “That’s everyday issues in Africa.”

However, Abdulrasheed Hammad believed the post to be false. He wrote “Fake news. The unknown hoodlums cut off this guy’s hand in Sokoto a few years ago. Beware.”

Verification

When we subjected the first picture to Google Reverse Image Search, results from Google Lens showed that the photo has been circulating online as far back 2019.

The results further led to the reports where credible media platforms in Nigeria documented the incident. A report revealed that the man was a student of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. He met his fate when he was attacked by unidentified thugs who amputated his hands after robbing him of his bike in Sokoto metropolis. Similar reports were seen here and here.

Conclusion

While the post is untrue, the two pictures recirculated by the Facebook user are unrelated to each other.
