Gov Adeleke insists Osun LG elections will hold despite tensions
Amid growing tensions over the control of local councils in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed that the scheduled local government elections will proceed as planned on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
In a statewide address on Thursday, Adeleke urged political actors to respect the rule of law and maintain peace during the electoral process.
His statement comes after violent clashes erupted following the reinstatement of embattled All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen by an Appeal Court verdict.

Despite the unrest, Adeleke assured residents that order has been restored.
He emphasized that legal due process, not political violence, will determine the final outcome of the council leadership dispute.
“As a government, we have read through the said judgment,” he stated. ”
We have submitted it to the best of legal minds for interpretation. We will allow the court to determine the correctness or otherwise of their claim.”
