The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has suspended the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Fidelis Mynin, over the suit challenging the establishment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

At least 19 states led by Kogi are challenging the legality of the anti-graft agency at the Supreme Court.

Other states involved in the suit are Bauchi, Benue, Cross River, Edo, Imo, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Sokoto and Plateau.

The apex court on Tuesday reserved judgment on the suit and promised to communicate the date for the ruling to the parties.

The states argued that it was the United Nations Convention against Corruption that was reduced into the EFCC Establishment Act.

They insisted that in enacting the law in 2004, the Federal Government did not follow the provision of Section 12 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

Mynin was suspended for joining the suit without informing the governor.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Kula Tersoo, confirmed the commissioner’s suspension to journalists on Wednesday night.

“The State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order was suspended today by His Excellency, Governor Hyacinth Alia, for joining the suit challenging the legality of EFCC without informing him,” the CPS stated.
