The Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has suspended the state’s Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Auwal Sankara, over an alleged illicit affair with a married woman in Kano State.

The State Head of Service, Mr. Bala Ibrahim, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Dutse.

He said the suspension took immediate effect.

Ibrahim added that the suspension was to allow for a thorough examination of the allegation and uphold the integrity of the state government.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to accountability and ethical standards.

“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation. We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government,” the statement read.

The commissioner was arrested by Hisbah officials in an uncompleted building with a married woman on Thursday in Kano.

Reports said the woman’s husband had earlier reported a case to the Department of State Security (DSS) that he suspected an illicit affair between his wife and the commissioner.

The Director-General of the Kano Hisba Commission, Malam Abba Sufi, confirmed that the Sankara was arrested by the agency’s officials.

He said the commissioner would be arraigned in court on Monday.
