Gunfire as soldiers clash with gunmen in Abia community
Soldiers attached to the Nigerian Army’s 14 Brigade, Ohafia, clashed with unidentified gunmen in Mbata, Umuchima village, Isiala Ngwa North local government area of Abia State on Monday.
Residents told journalists that the soldiers arrived in the village with 15 Hilux vehicles and armoured personnel carriers at about 6:00 a.m., targeting criminals reportedly camped near a river bank in the boundary between Abia and the Mbaise axis of Imo State.

While soldiers have been stationed at key junctions in the village, others engaged the criminals in a gun duel in nearby bushes.
However, both the Nigerian Army and the Abia State government have yet to release a statement on the incident.
A military officer was reportedly killed by unknown gunmen at a police checkpoint in the Ohafia area of the state last Wednesday.
