Hoodlums set ablaze the office complex of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) in the Ibiono Ibom local government area of the state on Saturday.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Timfon John, confirmed the news to journalists in Uyo.

She said the fire did not consume all electoral materials meant for the election.

John pointed out that the command had reinforced security at all the AKISIEC offices and strategic locations in the state.

“Some hoodlums partly touched the AKISIEC office in Ibiono Ibom, but election materials remained intact, election is also ongoing,” the spokesperson added.
