Ibadan stampede: Court to rule on Ooni ex-wife, 2 others bail application January 13
Justice Kamorudeen Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan, on Tuesday, adjourned ruling on the bail application filed by Naomi Silekunola, ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, and two others arraigned for complicity in the December 2024 stampede in the state capital.
At least 35 children died during a stampede at a fanfare in the Oyo State capital late last year.
The other defendants are the Proprietor of an Ibadan-based radio station, Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hazmat, and the Principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Abiodun Fasasi.
The defendants have been in custody at the Agodi Correctional Centre since December 24 last year.
They were arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy, murder, and negligent acts causing harm.

The offences are contrary to Sections 324, 311, 517, and 344 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
At the proceeding,g Mr. Musibau Adetunbi (SAN) represented the former queen while Mr. Adekunle Sobaloju (SAN) and Waheed Olajide appeared for the two other defendants.
Adetunbi argued in his submission urged the court to grant the defendants bail.
However, the Oyo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Abiodun Aikomo, reminded the court that 35 souls were lost in the stampede.
Aikomo said there was no anomaly in the provisions of Section 296 of the Administration of Criminal Justice law, and prayed the court to grant his counter-application opposing bail.
