Imo East Senator, Francis Ezenwa, dumps LP for APC, cites party crisis
Francis Ezenwa, the Senator representing Imo East Senatorial District, has officially switched allegiance from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement of his defection was made during Tuesday’s plenary session by Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.
Ezenwa’s decision was detailed in a letter where he attributed the move to the internal crisis within the Labour Party and emphasized that his action aligns with constitutional provisions. Following the reading of his letter, Ezenwa was warmly received by APC lawmakers and escorted to his new seat within the APC section of the Senate Chamber.

Earlier in the day, the Senate made a procedural exception by suspending its rules to accommodate the presence of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and his delegation in accordance with Senate protocols.
Uzodimma, who also serves as the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, was present to witness Ezenwa’s defection firsthand.
