Industrial court stops NLC’s planned strike

The National Industrial Court has asked the Nigeria Labour Congress to suspend its strike action scheduled for tomorrow.
The court stopped the NLC action pending the determination of a suit filed by the Attorney general of the Federation (AGF) challenging the move.

The AGF had sought the order on the ground that the strike would paralyse the nation’s economy, and asked the court to decide whether the NLC complied with conditions precedent in law before threatening to embark on strike.

The NLC was not represented in court.

Justice Adejumo ordered parties to maintain the status quo until the hearing and determination of the exparte motion.

The order elapses in 7 days

Justice Adejumo directed the applicant to dialogue with the NLC towards an amicable resolution of their dispute.

The case was adjourned to May 24 for hearing of the motion on notice.

This is coming on the heels of a meeting that was held between the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and the leadership of labour on Monday which ended in a stalemate, and was postponed to 3pm Tuesday.
