In a rare address in Tehran on Friday, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei pledged Iran’s unwavering support for regional allies fighting Israel, defending his country’s recent missile strike on its long-standing adversary.

“The resistance in the region will not back down with these martyrdoms, and will win,” Khamenei declared in Arabic, addressing a crowd of thousands.

Khamenei condemned Israel as a “malicious regime” reliant on American support, stating, “It will not last long.” He praised Hamas’s “logical and legal” actions and “fierce defence” against Israeli forces.

The address coincided with protests in Jordan and Bahrain, demonstrating support for Iran-backed Hamas and Hezbollah. Demonstrators carried portraits of militant leaders killed by Israel and hailed the October 7 attack as a “sign of pride, glory and dignity.”

Israel has intensified its focus on securing its Lebanon border, launching strikes on Hezbollah strongholds, killing over 1,000 people and displacing hundreds of thousands since September 23.

Iran’s top diplomat, Abbas Araghchi, visited Beirut, backing “efforts for a ceasefire” acceptable to Hezbollah and simultaneous with a Gaza ceasefire.

Khamenei’s speech precedes the first anniversary of Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel, sparking the ongoing Gaza war.
