Kidandan Market reopens after 10 years, as Kaduna gov calls for peace
Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has reopened the Kidandan market in Giwa Local Government Area, a decade after its closure due to banditry and insecurity. The reopening, held on Sunday, is a significant step in the state’s efforts to restore peace and revive the local economy.
This milestone follows the recent reopening of the Birnin-Gwari livestock market, further highlighting the state government’s dedication to fostering stability and development. Representing the governor at the event, Chief of Staff Alhaji Sani Kila stressed the importance of peace in driving progress and called on the community to prioritize reconciliation and non-violent solutions to disputes.
“Peace is an invaluable asset. It is the key to progress and development. Conflict destroys, while peace builds.
“We are one people. Though we may have differences, there are peaceful ways to resolve issues. Let us collectively say no to violence and conflict and work towards a prosperous future for Giwa Local Government,” Governor Sani stated.

Sheikh Yusuf Musa Asadussunah, Chairman of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee, shared updates on the strides made toward reconciliation. He revealed that numerous senior bandit leaders and their followers had surrendered their arms after extensive dialogue efforts.
Sheikh Yusuf also encouraged the government to release innocent detainees, noting that such gestures would help build trust and strengthen the reconciliation process.

The reopening of the Kidandan market is expected to significantly boost the local economy by creating jobs, increasing trade opportunities, and fostering development in the area.
