Kogi Govt shuts down Zango Market amid security concerns
The Kogi State government, on Wednesday, ordered the immediate closure of Zango market in Osara, citing security concerns in the area.
This decision comes on the heels of a disturbing trend of criminal activities in the market, which has been linked to the kidnapping of students from the Confluence State University of Science and Technology in May.
According to a statement released by the Information Commissioner, Kingsley Fanwo, the government has also banned roadside parking of trucks in the vicinity, effective immediately.
Fanwo explained that “intelligence reports indicate that criminal elements have been using the market as a hideout, often in collaboration with some truck drivers who park along the roadside.”
He emphasized that this situation poses a significant security threat to the university and the broader Osara community.
The government has given market operators and truck drivers a one-week grace period to comply with the directives. After this period, enforcement will be fully implemented.
