Kogi’s Gov Bello defies NASS, signs N99.9bn budget

Despite the motion by the National Assembly taking over the functions of the Kogi State House of Assembly and directing the state Governor Yahaya Bello to send the state’s budget to it for passage, the governor on Monday, signed the N99.9 billion budget into law.

The budget, tagged, ‘budget of change’, has recurrent expenditure of N63.12 billion and capital expenditure of N36.87 billion.

Governor Bello promised to ensure 100% implementation of the budget, assuring that a budget implementation committee will be set in that regard.

The Governor also pledged to work towards improving the internally generated revenue of the state in viw of the dwindling allocation accruing to the state from the federation account and also block all leakages of government finances to pave way for rapid development.

He commended members of the State House of Assembly for their commitment to the passage of the budget despite distractions and promised to be guided by the principle of equity, fairness and transparency.
