The Lagos State House of Assembly has temporarily shut down operations and directed all staff and legislative aides to work remotely from home till tensions arising from the leadership crisis are resolved.

The directive was issued via an internal memo by the Acting Clerk of the House, Babatunde Ottun, on Sunday.

He said the remote work would go on indefinitely until all the issues affecting the Assembly are settled.

According to the memo, titled “Amendment to Remote Work Schedule Arrangement,” the move is aimed at ensuring the safety of the staff and to prevent any potential violence stemming from the leadership dispute.

“To this end, all categories of staff at the Assembly, LAHASCOM, and legislative aides are requested to work remotely from home until further notice.

“This measure is necessary pending the resolution of the leadership dispute,” the memo stated in part, while assuring workers of the commitment of the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, to their safety and a peaceful resolution of the crisis.

The Lagos State House of Assembly has been engulfed in a leadership crisis following the impeachment of erstwhile Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, and the former Clerk Olalekan Onafeko, by 32 lawmakers on January 13, and the appointment of Meranda as the new Speaker.
