The Lagos State Government has unveiled the EKO Learners’ Support Programme, a groundbreaking initiative designed to support students gearing up for their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) exams.

At the unveiling ceremony held on Tuesday at the Education Resource Centre in Ojodu, Lagos, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, described the programme as a transformative step toward ensuring that every student in Lagos has the tools to excel academically.

“Education is the foundation for development,” Alli-Balogun declared. “This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to providing students with access to quality learning resources as they prepare for these critical exams.”

The programme, which combines traditional and digital learning, offers 320 recorded lessons in 10 core subjects: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Government, History, Literature-in-English, and Yoruba.

These lessons, taught by a carefully selected team of proficient teachers, will be broadcast on Lagos Television and shared across social media platforms, allowing students to learn anytime, anywhere.

Each episode, spanning 30 minutes, will air over 26 weeks in the lead-up to the exams. To ensure maximum accessibility, the lessons will also be archived on platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), giving students the flexibility to revisit the material at their own pace.

“This approach ensures no student is left behind,” Alli-Balogun stated. “With the lessons permanently available online, learners and teachers can review and engage with the content as needed.”

He urged students to make the most of the programme, reminding them that their dedication and commitment would determine their success. “We’ve provided the platform; now it’s up to you to put in the effort,” he said.

The commissioner also extended gratitude to the educators, partners, and stakeholders who played a role in bringing the initiative to life, noting that their collaboration underscores the collective effort required to uplift education in the state.
