The Kaduna State government has scheduled the election into the 23 local government areas in the state for October 19.

The chairman of the state Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM), Hajara Mohammed, announced the date at a meeting with political parties and other concerned individuals in Kaduna on Tuesday.

Mohammed said the current council members were sworn into office on November 1, 2021, and would end their three-year tenure on October 31, 2024.

The Supreme Court had last week granted full autonomy to the 774 local government areas in the country.

The apex court in the ruling ordered the Federal government to withhold revenue allocation to local government areas without elected officials.

”In consonance with the provision of section 25(1) of the KAD-SIECOM Law 2024, the general public is hereby informed that the LGA council election will be held in Kaduna on Saturday, 19th October 2024, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

”The commission issued the election timetable today, Tuesday 16th July 2024.”
