Man shoots, kills professor, then himself at US varsity

A murder-suicide scenario played out at the University of California, Los Angeles when a man shot and killed a university professor and then himself.

The shooting of the mechanical engineering professor led to cancellation of classes at the UCLA campus for two hours as officers in camouflage and tactical gear responded to reports of the shooting.

Charlie Beck, Los Angeles police chief, confirmed one man shot another and then himself on Wednesday in the engineering building and that police recovered a gun at the scene.

“There are no suspects outstanding and no continuing threat to UCLA’s campus,” Beck said.

Beck also informed that the police recovered what may turn out to be a suicide note by the assailant.
