Man strapped with fake bomb vest causes stir in Brussels

A man strapped with what was taught to be a bomb vest which he threatened to explode with a remote control device caused a major scare in Brussels.

But funny enough, when he was muscled down by security operatives the suspected bomb vest was filled with salt and biscuits.

The incident is coming at a time the city is on a high security alert following the recent explosion at the Brussels Airport and a metro train station not far ahead which claimed at least 32 lives.

In a related development, a man identified only as J.B was reported to have put a call through to the police claiming he was abducted and was strapped with explosive which would go off anytime soon.

When bomb experts reached the bustling City2 shopping centre where the supposed distress call came from, they sealed the area and checked the man’s belt only to discover that it was a false alarm.

“J.B. is known to police, also because of mental problems,” a Brussels prosecutor’s spokeswoman said, adding however that the incident was still being investigated for possible connections to militant Islam.
