NGX: Equities market begins week with N378bn profit

Investors in the Nigerian capital market gained N378 billion at the close of trading on Monday.

This followed a surge in the share prices of stocks like DAAR COMMUNICATION, IKEJA HOTEL, and SEPLAT amongst others on the trading floor.

After five hours of trading at the capital market, the equity capitalization increased to N59.8 trillion from N59.4 trillion recorded by the bourse last Friday.

The benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) increased to 98,694.80 from 98,070.23 recorded the previous day.

The market breadth was positive as 30 stocks advanced and 17 stocks declined, while 73 stocks remained unchanged in 8,281 deals.

DAAR COMMUNICATION, IKEJA HOTEL, and SEPLAT led other gainers with 10%, 10%, and 9.99% growth each in share prices to close at N0.66, N7.70, and N5, 738.20 from the previous N0.60, N7.00 and N5, 217.20 per share.

REGALINS, NSL TECH, and CI LEASING led other price decliners with 8.20%, 6.45%, and 5.01% decline each in share prices to close at N0.56, N0.58, and N3.60 from the previous N0.61, N0.62 and N3.79 per share.

On the volume index, UBA led trading with 138 million shares in 786 deals followed by STERLING BANK which traded 39 million shares in 108 deals.

ACCESS CORP traded 29 million shares in 450 deals.

On the value index, SEPLAT for the fifth day running came out top, trading stock worth N18 billion in 279 deals followed by UBA which traded equities worth N3.6 billion in 510 deals.

NESTLE traded shares valued at N805 million in 69 deals.
