Nigerian govt suspends 13 students over viral bullying incident at FGC Enugu
The Federal Government, on Wednesday, suspended 13 students of the Federal Government College in Enugu State for six weeks.
This is in a decisive move to address the growing concern of bullying in schools,
The suspension, ordered by Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa, comes after a viral video exposed the disturbing acts of bullying within the school.
“We are committed to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment in all federal schools across the country,” Dr. Alausa emphasized. The minister’s stance is a reassuring response to the alarming incident, which involved the gang assault of an SS1 student by a group of students on November 7.
The bullying incident, which circulated on social media platforms, prompted the Federal Ministry of Education to establish a disciplinary committee to investigate the matter. Following the committee’s findings, all 13 students involved were placed on suspension pending the report of the investigative committee.

The report read, “The findings of the ministry, the incident involved the gang assault of an SS1 student (a day student) by a group of students on Nov. 7.
”The incident came to light showing the circulation of a disturbing video on social media platforms.
”In response, the Federal Ministry of Education established a disciplinary committee to investigate the matter.
”Based on the findings, all 13 students involved have been placed on a six-week suspension pending the report of the investigative committee.”
To ensure a thorough investigation, the School Based Management Committee has been directed to collaborate with security agencies, exploring possible affiliations with external groups. Additionally, immediate measures have been implemented to enhance security at the college, including the engagement of law enforcement agents and a review of existing safety protocols.
Recognizing the need for holistic support, Dr. Alausa announced that counseling and rehabilitation services will be provided to address all forms of problems, promoting the reintegration of affected students into a positive school environment.
This decisive action by the Federal Government serves as a strong deterrent against bullying and underscores the importance of creating a secure and supportive learning environment for all students.
