Nigerian military mulls collaboration with local firearms makers
The Nigerian military is exploring innovative ways to integrate the skills of law-abiding citizens involved in local firearms and military equipment production into the nation’s defense industry.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, disclosed this during an operational visit to frontline troops under Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State on Sunday.
The visit included a review of locally made arms and ammunition seized from criminal elements in the region.
Musa praised the troops’ resilience and reiterated the military’s commitment to equipping them with advanced weaponry, vehicles, and improved welfare packages to enhance their operational effectiveness.
The CDS urged them to intensify their efforts against criminal elements, emphasizing the need to take the fight directly to the hideouts of insurgents and bandits this year.

He said: “We must flush them out completely. The year 2025 will see a renewed and greater vigor in the fight against insurgency.”
The CDS reviewed a cache of locally produced arms seized from terrorists.
He expressed concern over the skills being used for illegal activities and proposed engaging the local manufacturers at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) to channel their talents into lawful and productive endeavors.
Musa also stressed the importance of professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights in military operations.
He applauded the troops for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and security in the North-Central despite the many challenges they face.
