Nigerian troops crack down on oil theft, seize 215,000 liters, dismantle 34 illegal refineries
In a robust offensive against oil theft, Nigerian military and security personnel have apprehended 27 individuals linked to illicit oil operations in the Niger Delta.
The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, working alongside various agencies, uncovered 34 unauthorized refinery sites and confiscated an impressive 215,000 liters of stolen crude oil during their recent operations.
Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, reported that between October 21 and 27, troops destroyed 19 boats and eight vehicles, and seized a range of weapons and ammunition.

Notable achievements included the dismantling of three artisanal refineries and the capture of individuals with over 100,000 liters of refined gas oil in Rivers State. Additionally, a significant wooden vessel carrying 7,000 liters of stolen condensates was seized in Degema LGA, along with the arrest of five suspects attempting to vandalize an Oando pipeline, which yielded stolen products and drilling equipment.
In Imo Riverside, Bayelsa, troops identified 16 illegal refining sites, confiscating 50 drum pots and more than 10,000 liters of stolen oil.
Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding the 6 Division, praised the troops for their determination and urged them to maintain their momentum to foster a secure and economically stable environment in the region.
