Nigeria’s D’Tigers qualify for 2025 AfroBasket
Nigeria’s D’Tigers secured a 77-62 victory over Cape Verde in their final Group B match at the second window of the FIBA AfroBasket qualifiers in Tripoli, Libya, on Sunday.
With this win, D’Tigers have officially qualified for the 2025 AfroBasket tournament in Angola.
The team wrapped up the group stage with three wins, having previously defeated Libya and Uganda.
They finished at the top of the group with nine points, while Cape Verde settled for second place.

Among the nations that have also booked their spots at this year’s tournament are DR Congo, Senegal, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Tunisia, South Sudan, Madagascar, Mali, Guinea, and Rwanda.
This marks D’Tigers’ 20th appearance at the FIBA AfroBasket.
Nigeria’s lone continental title came in 2015, while they have finished as runners-up on four occasions (1997, 1999, 2003, 2017) and secured third place three times (1995, 2005, 2011).
The 2025 AfroBasket is scheduled to take place in Angola from August 12 to 24.
