Nigeria’s Tems, Rema make ex-US President Obama’s Summer playlist

Nigerian singers, Tems and Rema have been included in the summer playlist of former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama as songs to listen to as the summer winds down.

The former president who shared his playlist on X on Monday picked ‘Love me jeje’ by Tems and ‘Yayo’ by Rema among his favorite songs for the season.

Tems, real name, Temilade Openiyi is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer, who rose to prominence after being featured on Wizkid’s 2020 single ‘Essence’.

She wrote and released the song ‘Love Me JeJe’ in April of 2024. The song is a rehash of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 single of the same title.

Rema, real name, Divine Ikubor is a rapper, singer and songwriter. He shot to prominence in 2018 with a freestyle performance of D’Prince’s song ‘Gucci Gang’ which he posted on Instagram.

The song ‘Yayo’ released in 2024 is the fourth song off his album ‘HEIS’.

Speaking on his selection, Obama said, “With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately – and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to!”
