Ogun govt shuts school over student’s death
The Ogun State government has ordered the closure of Obada Grammar School in the Imeko Afon local government area of the state over the death of a Senior Secondary School (SSS 2) student, Monday Arijo.
The government also suspended the Principal of the school, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Lekan Adeniran, announced this in a statement on Tuesday in Abeokuta.
He said Onaolapo was earlier issued a query for allowing corporal punishment against the established rules and regulations in the state.
The spokesman added that the measure followed the arrest and suspension of the teacher allegedly responsible for the death of the student on Friday.
According to the statement, the closure of the school followed the directive of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The student died after a punishment that included 42 strokes of the cane and 162 frog jumps.
