Osimhen bags brace as Super Eagles beat Rwanda in W’Cup Qualifier
Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman shined bright on Friday evening as they both ensured Nigeria secured a 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali.
For Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, he made a bright start with the team as he led them to their first victory in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.
Chelle, who was appointed coach of the national team in January, was playing a competitive match with Nigeria for the first time.
After an early contest between both sides, Lookman sent a fine cross from a freekick to find Osimhen at the far end, and the Galatasaray striker slotted in on 11 minutes.

The Eagles continued to press for more goals and got successful again just before the halftime whistle, when Osimhen chipped in over the keeper after a fine run.
Nigeria’s hopes of securing a World Cup spot has just been renewed with the vitory. Prior to the Kigali encounter, Nigeria had drawn three games and lost one in their four outings so far in the series.
As it stands in the Group C table, the Super Eagles are now four points behind South Africa halfway through the campaign.
Bafana Bafana moved to the summit after overcoming a stubborn Lesotho side 2-0 thanks to second-half strikes from Relebohile Mofokeng and Jayden Adams.
Up next for the Super Eagles is a home clash against Zimbabwe, billed to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom on Tuesday.
