Osimhen scores but Zimbabwe condemn Nigeria to fourth draw in W’CupQ

Victor Osimhen was on target again but his goal was not enough to give the Super Eagles of Nigeria victory over Zimbabwe on Tuesday.

The highly-contested game saw the the Galatasaray striker elate the crowd at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo with a 74th-minute opener.

But the home side fell to a 1-1 draw after failing to defend their lead, as the away side pulled level through Tawanda Chirstr’s goal at the stroke of full time.

Eric Chelle’s boys fought hard to salvage the situation within the five added minutes, but the Zimbabweans held on to take home a point.

After six games played in the qualifying series, Nigeria sit fourth in the six-team table. The winners of the group will gain automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

With four matches left, the Eagles are six points behind leaders South Africa and one point behind Rwanda and Benin Republic.
