Osun Gov Adeleke orders review of teenager’ case sentenced to death for stealing fowl
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered a review of a case involving a 17-year-old boy, Segun Olowookere, who was reportedly sentenced to death by hanging for allegedly stealing a fowl.
Adeleke who intervened in the case following public out cry after the boy’s parents raised an alarm over his conviction, said he has directed the state’s Attorney General to investigate the case and ensure that Olowokere is considered for the prerogative of mercy before the year’s end.
In a post on his X handle @AAdeleke_01 on Tuesday, the governor said he had ordered a review of the case following reports that the said victim was sentenced to death by hanging for the minor offence of stealing a fowl.
“I have received the report of a case of a young man reportedly sentenced to death by hanging in Osun State for stealing a fowl,” the governor wrote.

“Consequently, I have directed the Attorney- General and Commissioner for Justice, Osun State, to commence full investigation into the matter and initiate processes to grant prerogative of mercy to the young man.
“Osun is a land of justice and equity and must ensure fairness and protection of the sanctity of lives. I assure members of the public that this matter is receiving my direct attention with every sense of urgency also attached to our response to the matter.”
Reports have it that an Osun State High Court, sitting in Ikirun, reportedly sentenced the teenager to death by hanging for robbing the poultry farm belonging to his uncle in Oyan, Odo-Otin local government and stealing a fowl and eggs, which led his parents to beg the governor to grant their son amnesty.
