The Oyo State Government has expressed outrage over the damage caused to a section of the recently refurbished Olusoji-WCCI road, just days after its official reopening to the public.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Ibadan, the state capital, Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency, Busoye Ogunlade, decried the incident and vowed to take decisive action.

“We received reports of vandalism on the newly rehabilitated road, particularly the regrettable destruction caused by a truck carrying over 60 tonnes of cement,” Ogunlade said.

He further lamented the actions of the truck driver, who fled the scene following the incident, describing it as cowardly.

“The agency condemns in the strongest terms this ruthless destruction of the first phase of Olusoji-WCCI road, as a deliberate act of sabotage on a key link road that has immense socio-economic benefits to the state and indeed the entire nation,” Ogunlade emphasized.

According to Ogunlade, immediate steps were taken to rectify the damage, with a technical team deployed promptly to assess and repair the affected section of the road. Additionally, the facility where the truck unloaded the cement has been sealed off.

He assured residents of the area that measures would be put in place to prevent future occurrences, stating, “Perpetrators of such acts will face the full wrath of the law.”

The newly rehabilitated Olusoji-WCCI road, completed just last week, is part of the state government’s effort to improve infrastructure and meet the road transport needs of the populace.
